What is SKIP?
Skip is unique and lends itself to offering positive Parenting messages in creative forms.
New initiatives are birthed out of ideas coming from our community itself therefore the possibilities are endless.
Because the ideas of delivering the SKIP messages are relevant they take a whole new significance.
Here at Te Aroha Noa we embrace the opportunity to grow people in ways designed to reflect their own individuality. Ideas are welcomed and engaging the community in this process is essential.
We believe every Parent underneath it all wants to be the best Parent they can be and together we can help them achieve this.
SKIP is about supporting parents to have loving and healthy relationships with their children. It is aimed at parents and caregivers with children from birth to five.
SKIP is infused throughout Te Aroha Noa Community Services and takes many creative forms.
SKIP Vision
All children in New Zealand are raised in a positive way, with parents and caregivers who feel confident about managing children's behaviour as part of a loving, nurturing relationship.

SKIP Values
- Be positive and non-judgemental
- Affirm parents and caregivers' expertise and experience
- Be sensitive to the complexity and stress of family life
- Emphasise links between child development and behaviour
- Focus on the whole child, including where they live, who they live with and their environment
Objectives
- Increase the opportunities for communities to provide positive parenting

- Increase the consistency and application of knowledge about effective non-physical discipline within organisations working with parents, caregivers and children
- Increase the number of parents and caregivers who are confident, skilled and knowledgeable about using effective non-physical discipline
How does SKIP work?
SKIP takes shape in large collaborative events involving the western suburbs of Palmerston North.
Another way to reach our community is 'One off' events such as family camps, outings, shared meals and extra curricular activities. SKIP gives weekly support to families in the form of small groups gathering together for coffee, parenting information and building relationships within community.
